I started watching The Office last year. I've seen a lot, or most, of the
episodes but there are still things that I don't quite understand.

One of them: what was the stated reason for filming Michael and the crew?
Was Dunder Mifflin going to use the footage for some reason?

Another question: was the only reason Dwight and Angela's initial affair
kept secret because she thought it was best?

I don't recall them ever giving a reason for the filming.

I think so -- not surprising, given her prudishness. I don't
remember Dwight's original position on the subject, but after
Angela and Andy got engaged Dwight definitely wanted to come clean
to everyone about the affair, to which Angela strenuously objected.

I wondered because even when the characters went to bars, the corporate
office, other places and even private homes the cameras were acknowledged.

Thanks for your answer.
